Madagascar was very poor. I have seen poverty before through
my travels to other places but Madagascar touched me in a way no other place
has. I saw young kids working on the side of the road pounding rocks to make
gravel and working in the field to gather clay and mud to make bricks. I found
out many kids don’t get to go to school. I saw people brushing their teeth
outside. The average person lives on $1 USD a day. Their houses are very small
and mostly one tiny room. A lot of people do not have beds and sleep on leaves.
Madagascar is a beautiful country though and has lemurs. I
hope to go back one day and help the people of Madagascar.
I toured a sugar factory. It is surprising how many types of
sugar there are. I also toured a tea factory, I had no idea that the process
was so involved and long.
The beach is amazing. It does not even look real. It looks
like it is in a movie. From my hotel room at the St. Regis, I would be on the
beach in ten steps from the back porch.
